Bolivia breaks daily record of deaths from coronavirus with almost 80

Bolivia has recorded in the last hours about 80 deaths from coronavirus, which is the highest number of daily deaths since the start of the pandemic in the Andean nation.

The Ministry of Health has reported that in these 24 hours there have been 79 deaths from COVID-19, for a total of 2,407 deaths. To find a similar number of daily deaths you have to go back to July 2, with 78.

One of the fatalities is the Secretary of Health of Santa Cruz, Óscar Urenda, one of the visible faces of the fight against COVID-19 in Bolivia. In fact, the regional government has highlighted that it contracted the disease “while fighting this pandemic.” He has been in intensive care for 46 days, according to the official note.

In the last day 1,117 new cases of coronavirus were added, bringing the balance to 65,252, of which 42,815 remain active and 20,030 have recovered.

By provinces, the most affected remains Santa Cruz, with 31,656 infections, followed by La Paz (11,943), Cochabamba (7,047), Beni (5,193), Tarija (2,594) and Oruro (2,506), while Chuquisaca, Potosí and Pando they have between 1,000 and 2,000 cases.
