Brazil adds 39,400 new cases, its second highest number in a daily balance, and the US adds 34,700 positives
The new coronavirus pandemic originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan has registered a total of 164,800 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 9.2 million infected people and more than 477,000 fatalities worldwide, according to the latest balance from Johns Hopkins University.
According to data updated at 9.30 am on Wednesday, the global balance of the coronavirus amounts to 9.2 million cases and 477,601 fatalities in 188 countries and territories. The total number of people recovered exceeds 4.63 million, with the United States at the top of the list, with 647,548 people cured.
The United States remains the country most affected by the pandemic with 2.34 million people infected and 121,228 fatalities, after registering 34,700 cases in the last 24 hours.
Brazil remains in second position with 1.14 million infections and 52,645 deaths after adding 39,400 positives since the previous balance. Russia remains in third position, with 598,878 positives and 8,349 deaths.
INDIA EXCEEDS 450,000 CONTACTS
In fourth position, India exceeds 450,000 cases, with a total of 456,183 positives and 14,476 deaths after adding 16,000 new cases, its new daily record. Then, the United Kingdom registers 307,682 infected people and 43,011 deaths, ahead of Peru, with 260,810 sick and 8,404 deaths.
For its part, Chile has 250,767 people with coronaviruses and 4,505 deaths, while Spain has 246,750 infected and 28,325 deceased. After Spain, Italy accumulates 238,833 infected and 34,675 fatalities. Then, Iran already adds 209,970 cases and 9,863 deaths; France, with 197,804 infections and 29,723 fatalities, and Germany, which registers 192,480 infections and 8,914 deaths.
MEXICO EXCEEDS THE THRESHOLD OF 190,000 CASES
Mexico registers 191,410 infected and 23,377 deaths, surpassing Turkey, which accumulates 190,165 cases and 5,001 deaths, ahead of Pakistan, which accounts for 188,926 patients and 3,755 fatalities.
Closing the group of more than 100,000 infections are Saudi Arabia, with 164,144 infected and 1,346 deaths; Bangladesh, with 119,198 patients and 1,545 fatalities; South Africa, with 106,108 cases and 2,102 deaths; and Canada, with 103,767 people with coronavirus and 8,512.
Below the 100,000 positive threshold, Qatar registers 89,579 cases and 99 deaths, and China, the country in which the pandemic originated, accumulates 84,653 cases with 4,639 deaths.
For its part, Colombia registers 73,760 infections and 2,524 deaths, compared to 60,837 cases and 5,161 deaths declared by the Government of Sweden. Belgium, which accumulates 60,810 infections and 9,713 fatalities; Belarus, with 59,847 cases and 357 deaths; Egypt, with 58,141 infected and 2,365 deceased; and Ecuador, with 51,643 people with coronavirus and 4,274 dead, close the list of countries with more than 50,000 cases.
Exceeding the 40,000 positives are the Netherlands, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Singapore and Kuwait, while Ukraine, Portugal, Iraq, Poland, Oman, the Philippines and Switzerland accumulate more than 30,000 cases.
For their part, Afghanistan, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Ireland, Bolivia, Ireland, Romania, Bahrain, Israel, Nigeria and Armenia exceed 20,000 coronavirus positives, ahead of Japan, Austria, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Denmark, South Korea, Cameroon, Algeria, the Czech Republic, Morocco and Nepal, which have more than 10,000 infections.
