Billie Eilish sweeps the Grammys, who reward Rosalia and Alejandro Sanz and remember Kobe Bryant

Billie Eilish has swept the Grammy 2020 by winning five of the six awards she was nominated for, including the most important of this edition.

Thus, the 18-year-old has won the Best Vocal Pop Album, Best New Artist, Album of the Year awards – for her debut ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where do we go?’ – and Recording and Song of the Year for ‘Bad guy’.

To finish off the victory, Billie Eilish’s brother and producer, Finneas, has won two awards for himself: Best Arrangement for Album (non-classical) and Producer of the year (non-classical).

The ceremony was marked by the death of basketball player Kobe Bryant, as it also took place at the Staples Center, home of Los Angeles Lakers, his team for twenty years.

Thus, at the same time that the musicians paraded through the red carpet, many followers of the Lakers approached the pavilion to pay their respects to Kobe.

The gala began with Lizzo on stage saying “Tonight is for Kobe”, while presenter Alicia Keys also remembered the player, giving way later to Boyz II Men to sing a cappello ‘It’s so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday’.

For its part, the Spanish won first Grammy in the category of Best urban album of rock, urban or alternative Latin music for ‘El mal querer’. Alejandro Sanz has won the award for Best Latin Pop Album with #ElDisco, however, he has not been able to pick up the prize because he was not at the gala.

In the rest of the main categories have been imposed Tyler The Creator (Best Rap Album), Lizzo (Solo Pop Performance, Traditional R&B Performance, Contemporary Urban Music Album), Elvis Costello (Best Traditional Pop Album), Lil Nas X with Billy Ray Cyrus (Best performance in duo or group).

The award for Best Rock Album went to Cage the Elephant, and the alternative music for Vampire Weekend. For its part, the Best Rock Song has been ‘This land’ by Gary Clark Jr, also distinguished in Best Rock Performance. In the Metal section, Tool in Better Performance has been imposed. ‘No Geography’, by Chemical Brothers, is the best electronic record; and ‘Venture’ by Anderson .Paak, the R&B.

During the gala, performances by artists such as Aerosmith with Run DMC, Rosalia, Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Usher, Sheile E., Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, John Legend, DJ Khaled or Billie Eilish herself followed.
