The president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, has contracted the dengue virus and will modify his official agenda during the next few days until he recovers completely, according to the Minister of Health, Julio Mazzoleni, who has confirmed before the media the suspicions that already they were shuffling after an unexpected cancellation of activities.
The president suspended part of his agenda in the department of Alto Paraná, as a result of a headache that resulted in his transfer to the capital. Already in Asunción, doctors performed a blood test that has ended up confirming the presence of dengue of serotype 4, the “dominant” in the current outbreak.
Mazzoleni has explained that Abdo Benítez is “totally asymptomatic at this time” and presents “a very good state in general”, so he will continue to fulfill his agenda “with some small restrictions”. It will remain under observation for at least 48 hours to check its evolution, according to the minister.
The Paraguayan authorities have reinforced in recent weeks their information and fumigation campaigns to fight mosquitoes, the main transmitters of the disease. The Government recommends seeing a doctor in case of symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding and extreme weakness.
