The final episode of “Game of Thrones” breaks audience record on HBO

Los Angeles, – The farewell to the last season of “Game of Thrones” breaks the record of viewers on HBO platforms, but leaves its followers with divided opinions and a large number of criticisms on social networks.

The story of the struggle for the throne of the seven kingdoms of “Westeros” exceeded its own record in its final episode with 19.3 million viewers on HBO platforms, which includes HBO GO and HBO NOW.

With these numbers the series exceeds its own brand established in the penultimate chapter, which was seen by 18.4 million viewers.
The last episode, titled “The Iron Throne,” also earned the most-watched television broadcast record in HBO’s history, with 13.6 million viewers at nine o’clock in the evening. the East coast.

The previous record, of 13.4 million viewers, had the premiere of the fourth season of “The Sopranos” in 2002.
The eighth season of “Game of Thrones” has an average of 44.2 million viewers per episode in net audience, an increase of more than 10 million viewers compared to the seventh season.

Over the years the series was gaining followers, from 9.3 million in the first season in 2011 to 32.8 million in the seventh season that ended in August 2017, and then the public had to wait two years to see the last six chapters.
After eight seasons and 73 episodes the end of the series has caused a worldwide stir, and thousands of followers on social networks are calling for another end.

A sign of the discontent are the audience ratings of sites such as Rotten Tomatoes where the last chapter reached 56% of its score, in contrast to the 91% that has received the entire series so far.

The rating is lower on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the episode that begins after the invasion of King’s Landing just barely reached 4.7% with less than 100,000 voters.

The protests against the program that was broadcast in 207 countries and territories, 194 of these in simultaneous transmission, has also generated a petition on the site change.org that seeks to gather one and a half million signatures asking HBO to “subvert” the expectations of followers.

This Monday more than 1.282 million people had joined the petition that ensured that the writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had failed in his work by not having original material to bring the story to its end.

The last season did not have as reference the novels of George R.R. Martin, like at the beginning of the series.
The name of the writer appeared in the thousands of messages with the tags #gameoftrhrones # GOTs8e3 #GameofThrones and #GOTFinale.

Figures such as author Stephen King have expressed their desire to know what happens with the story of Arya, one of the most beloved characters in the series.

The critical eye of the followers also did not miss in the last chapter several bottles of water that were seen in the scene where they voted for a new leader.
The error is given weeks after the fourth chapter saw a cup of coffee on a table.

“Game of Thrones” is the most licensed program in the history of HBO, with more than 100 worldwide.
Another beneficiary of the series was HBO NOW that saw a 50% jump in visualization.

Meanwhile, platforms such as Facebook, Reddit, Youtube and Twitter, among others, registered the name and the story thousands of times.
