San Juan, .- The Maritime Transportation Authority (ATM) is in the process of renting a private cargo ship to transport goods to the Puerto Rican municipality of Vieques and Culebra.
This was highlighted today, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, after the two cargo ships of the ATM collapsed last Friday.
For this reason, the National Guard had to be asked for help.
“Every time this happens, it reminds us why we had to rent boats from the private sector to be able to guarantee transportation to the citizens, and every time this happens, and we have said it, we send these boats that are old to be fixed and then of weeks are damaged again, “Rosselló said.
“Throughout this week, I can not say for sure, but now the executive director -Mara Pérez- was working on being able to acquire a new boat for cargo only and then with the APP all these issues are clarified,” said the governor .
He reiterated the idea that it is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) that is responsible for this transport.
“By the end of the summer we hope to have that adjudicated and then begin that process, but in these transformations there are always going to be some limitations,” he concluded. (EFEUSA)
