“Afro-Venezuelan” show unfolds song to freedom in Miami

 Miami, .- The musical work “Viva La Parranda!”, Whose world premiere has been in Miami Beach (Florida) and is performed by eight musicians from the Venezuelan region of Barlovento, raises a song to the freedom of their homeland.

“They sing to freedom, to fear, to joy, they sing to life, in the show you will see songs of celebration, magical-religious songs and songs of protest,” Juan Carlos Souki, director of the staging premiered, told Efe. this weekend at the Colony Theater on Lincoln Road.

This “interactive musical” in Spanish, which unfolds over the sound of the Venezuelan drums, is led by “the prodigious singer” Betsayda Machado, as Souki says, and has a cast of eight musicians from El Clavo, a town not more than 1,500 inhabitants located in the municipality Arévalo González.

The town is located in the region of Barlovento, east of Caracas and the epicenter of Afro culture in Venezuela.
More than actors, they are “real people,” as Souki says, and among them are firefighters, retired nurses, cocoa farmers, school teachers, who in turn are part of a community music group in the town, which offers a hundred each year. of concerts in houses of his community.

The musicians “are going around the world”, as Souki says, with this show about hope and perseverance, which has the ally of the “Barlovento drums”, and that in the Miami Beach theater will remain until the next May 19.

On the stage, and throughout one hour and forty minutes, stories “triumphs and tribulations” are developed under the sifter of the Afro tradition in Venezuela and a vocal ensemble that inspires and “fills with energy”, as it is pointed out in a note of press Miami New Drama, producers of the staging.
