A mission from Mexico arrives in Honduras to discuss migration and cooperation

Tegucigalpa, .- The Under Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Maximiliano Reyes, heads a delegation that arrived Wednesday in Tegucigalpa, where he will meet with Honduran authorities to discuss issues of migration and cooperation.

Reyes, and the Mexican delegation he heads, will meet with Honduran Foreign Minister María Dolores Agüero, with whom they will talk about Mexico’s migration policy before the massive mobilization of Central Americans to that country, the Honduran presidency said in a statement.

In addition, they will discuss the “relevant measures” to guarantee the protection of the human rights of immigrants in their passage through Mexico.

The Mexican delegation is also made up of the director general for Latin America, Miguel Díaz Reynoso; the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Héctor Alfredo Rangel; and the ambassador of Mexico in Honduras, Dolores Jiménez.

Both parties will also address the progress of the Integral Development Plan implemented by Mexico and the countries of the Northern Triangle of Central America, which make up El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, to promote sustainable development in the region.

This plan, agreed in December 2018, seeks to give a comprehensive regional perspective and provides priority attention to the entire migration cycle, working on the creation of a fund with the objective of implementing the Integral Development Plan that includes programs and actions specific, in order to generate jobs and combat poverty.

Another issue that will be debated by delegations is the XVII Tuxtla Summit to be held in Honduras from August 21 to 23, which will bring together the presidents of Central America, Colombia, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The summit aims to continue strengthening the actions aimed at “connecting social development” of Mesoamerica with “inclusive and sustainable economic growth” and “focused on the promotion of logistics mobility and trade facilitation, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) ) “, according to official information.

Representatives from ten countries met in early April in San Pedro Sula, northern Honduras, to prepare the agenda for the XVII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Mechanism of Dialogue and Agreement of Tuxtla.

Parallel to the summit, San Pedro Sula will host the First Mesoamerican Business Meeting with the participation of more than 300 entrepreneurs from the region. (EFE)
