Mexico deported 148 Cubans while Central Americans continue to advance

Almost 150 Cuban migrants were repatriated from Mexico in agreement with the Government of Cuba, while the advance of thousands of Central Americans through the state of Chiapas continues with the sights on the northern border of the country.

The National Migration Institute reported in a statement that 148 Cuban citizens who had an irregular stay in Mexico were returned to their country on Monday by air, in accordance with current legal procedures and in agreement with authorities in Cuba.

For its part, the more than 2,000 Cubans who have announced a motorized caravan for this week say that it will be this Wednesday when they will start their departure to Mexico City, and they trust that the Mexican authorities will allow them to reach the north of the country.

The Cubans, who have been meeting since February in the city of Tapachula (Chiapas), agreed in recent days to organize a kind of viacrucis to cross Mexico and reach the border with the United States.

The migrants plan to leave by bus to Mexico City, from there to continue their journey.

Meanwhile, personnel from the National Institute of Migration began to enter the Migration Station Siglo XXI, in Tapachula, African and Haitian migrants who had been camping out in the open for a month.

Migration authorities began to enter single migrants and entire families from at least 10 countries, including Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone and Ghana, as well as Haiti.

All hope to obtain a safe conduct that allows them to cross the country to the United States.

The federal authorities have deported airplanes to African, Haitian and other migrants who were at the station and did not check their regular stay in the country.

Meanwhile the march continues of thousands of Central American migrants who move northward in several contingents through Chiapas (southeast).

The Central Americans have agreed in their meetings that the best way not to be deported is to walk together in a caravan. His intention is to congregate in the municipality of Mapastepec in Chiapas, where there are already more than 3,000 of them, and from there continue north.

It is estimated that around 10,000 migrants are currently in Chiapas, including about 2,000 that are located on the International Bridge between Guatemala and Mexico. (EFE) .-
