Demands for travel packages to Puerto Rico increased 440% in fourth quarter 2018

San Juan, .- Expedia Group, one of the leading travel agencies in the network, reported today that the demands of travel packages and mobile reservations to Puerto Rico for the fourth period of 2018 increased by 440 and 40%, respectively, compared to the same date for 2017.

Likewise, Expedia Group reported that the demands through cell phones obtained a large number of reservations, because according to their statistics, 1 of every 3 transactions to book were made by cell phones, while transactions by mobile applications increased by almost 50%.

According to Expedia Group, Puerto Rico, the United States, the Bahamas and Spain reported the highest number of mobile claims throughout the year 2018.

“Puerto Rico is an iconic Caribbean destination, with an offer of natural and cultural beauty, despite the devastation of the hurricanes in 2017, we are confident that the island will rise,” said the director of Latin American Tourist Centers Expedia Group, Rafael del Castillo.

Del Castillo explained that to support Puerto Rico in its reconstruction, Expedia Group Media Solutions, together with Travelocity and the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico (CTPR), developed the creative marketing campaign, “Viaje para Bien”, to create awareness of that the destination was ready to receive visitors.
Expedia Group also reported that Puerto Rico obtained a significant increase in international travelers.

According to statistics from the CTPR, more than 1.1 million international travelers visited the Caribbean island in 2018, with an average stay of 3 days.

The average daily cost of stay in Puerto Rico rose from 149.57 dollars in 2017 to 154.17 in 2018.

The hotels, in turn, perceived that the occupancy rate reached 77% between January and June of last year, marking an increase of 5% prior to the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.

For its part, the president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Caribbean, Patricia Affonso-Dass, stressed that the agency was “excited to see the long steps that have been taken, while the tourism industry of Puerto Rico improves with a product renovated”.

“The future of Puerto Rico is brilliant, having local travel providers and tourist entities continue to diversify and expand their offerings, providing travelers with better options and experiences,” he said. (EFEUSA)
