San Francisco, .- Samsung today introduced its latest version of the popular series of smart phones Galaxy, the S10, which increases considerably the number of cameras until 5 or 6, depending on the model, and also announced its first mobile with folding screen, the “Galaxy Fold”.
In an act not usual in San Francisco just a week after the start of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Spain), the South Korean firm revealed the devices of this 2019, which follow a strategy similar to that of its rivals Apple: diversify the offer to capture different market segments.
Thus, from the S10 there will be up to four different models, all of them with shared basic characteristics and differences in the size of the screen, the total number of cameras (from three to six), the price and the capacity to operate in LTE networks or the new 5G, called to revolutionize telecommunications in the coming years.
The smallest and cheapest, the S10E (similar to Apple’s iPhone XR) has a screen of 5.8 inches, three cameras and will sell for $ 749.99, while the largest, the S10 5G (the only one in the series capable of operating in this network) has a 6.7-inch screen and six cameras (at the moment price has not been reported).
In between are the S10 itself (which in principle
it should be the “standard” of the series), with a 6.1-inch screen, five cameras and a price of $ 899.99; and his older brother, the Galaxy S10 Plus, with a 6.4-inch screen, five cameras and a price of $ 999.99.
Apart from the specific model, all versions of the S10 have a high resolution AMOLED screen that extends to the margins, a Snapdragon 855 processor, between 6 GB and 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which in the case of the S10 Plus can be extended up to 1 TB.
The new Samsung devices also include for the first time an ultrasonic fingerprint reader on the screen, which creates a three-dimensional “mold” of the fingertip using sound waves to identify the user and thus allow their unlocking.
The main advantage of the ultrasonic reader is that, unlike traditional optical fingerprint readers, its operation should not be affected by humidity or water, in addition to ensuring that the device can only be unlocked with the user’s physical finger and not, for example, with a photograph.
Another new feature is the “reverted” wireless recharge system, which allows the S10 to be used to recharge the batteries of other compatible phones (including those of the competition) by simply placing one on top of the other.
In addition to the four models of S10, South Korean technology took the opportunity to reveal a device that had been speculated for years, but no major manufacturer had yet released to the market: the phone with folding screen, which he named “Galaxy Fold. “
The mobile screen, 4.6 inches when the device is folded and 7.3 when it is fully open (ie, of dimensions similar to those of a tablet), is made with a malleable material that allows you to fold it as if a wallet and putting it in your pocket.
“The screen is designed to be deployed hundreds of thousands of times,” said Samsung vice president of product marketing, Justin Denison.
The mobile has six cameras in total: three in the back, two inside (operational when deployed) and one in the front, and will be available in black, silver, green and blue.
The “Galaxy Fold” allows to work with three different applications at the same time, has a 7 nm processor, 12 GB of RAM, storage capacity of 512 GB and includes Universal Flash Storage 3.0 (eUFS).
The phone will go on sale on April 26 for a price of $ 1,980 and with two different versions: one for the LTE network and another for 5G, depending on each regional market. (EFEUSA)
