Kirsten Gillibrand announces US Democratic presidential nomination

Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that she will run for the US presidential election in 2020 during an interview on a television show in which she said she will fight for children’s rights.

“I am going to present myself as a candidate for the presidency of the United States because as a young woman I am going to fight for the children of others as I would fight for mine,” said the 52-year-old senator from New York. known “Late Show With Stephen Colbert”.

Gillibrand, which has become one of the biggest criticisms of the current US president, Donald Trump, also said he is forming an exploratory committee to raise money and travel throughout the country with his election campaign, something that will begin this same weekend with a trip to the state of Iowa.

The senator has voted against virtually all of Trump’s important nominations, and has spoken of the need to restore the country’s “moral leadership”.

A former lawyer, Gillibrand has received criticism from other politicians, who say she does not have a clear ideology, having transformed from a conservative legislator in favor of arms and with important links to Wall Street companies to a progressive who fights for the illegalization of weapon possession.

This is not the first announcement of a woman’s candidacy for the 2020 presidential election, since Sen. Elizabeth Warren also did the same thing two weeks ago.

Other Democratic senators who could also run are Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kamala Harris of California, as well as Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton’s main rival in the past Democratic primaries, former US Vice President Joe Biden, and popular former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke. (EFEUSA) .-
