Amazon announces “record” sales despite “fall” of Alexa on Christmas Day

The multinational Amazon today announced having experienced a “record” of sales of its devices and paid subscriptions during this Christmas period, despite the fact that its popular virtual assistant, Alexa, suffered a temporary interruption of service on Christmas Day.

The company led by Jeff Bezos said in a statement that this holiday season has been the largest product sales in its history around the world, and that customers have bought “several million more” devices like Echo, Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick 4K than at last year’s parties.

Most of these Amazon products include the Alexa virtual assistant system, which on Christmas Day suffered an interruption of service for a few hours in Europe, as several users explained on social networks and confirmed the company itself in its public responses to the customers.

“During the last two hours, several Echo devices in Europe have suffered intermittent connections, these problems have been resolved and Alexa’s service is working normally,” the “Amazon Help” account of Twitter responded to users who complained on the Internet. .

Despite mentioning “record” sales and increases in “millions” of transactions around the world, the Seattle-based company (Washington State, USA) did not offer detailed figures.

When last October Amazon presented its results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2018, analysts and investors were disappointed with a less promising holiday season forecast than expected, which caused the company’s shares to plummet on the stock market. .

Today’s announcement, however, could have caused Wall Street to regain confidence in the e-commerce giant, since after its “record” of sales was known this Christmas, Amazon shares were revalued by 6% in the market New Yorker. (EFEUSA) .-
