Republicans push trial to dismiss head of Russian research

Congressmen close to the ultraconservative Tea Party today introduced a proposal to dismiss the number two of the Department of Justice, Rod Rosenstein, the supervisor of the investigation into the Russian plot.

The dismissal does not have the support of the Republican leaders, much less the Democratic congressmen, so it is unlikely that it will end up being approved in the House of Representatives.

And if the case occurs, for destitution to be effective, two thirds of the Senate should also support it, which in practice is impossible because of the current composition of the chamber.

The impeachment process is driven by Congressmen Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows, who have chosen not to force their vote in the House of Representatives.

The congressmen alleged as grounds for the dismissal a supposed obstruction of Rosenstein to the summonses of Congress, as well as concealment of information to the Legislative.

“The time is over and the consequences are here, and the time has come to find a new deputy prosecutor general who is serious about responsibility and transparency,” the congressmen said in a statement.

However, in the background of this “impeachment” reflects the obstinacy of the president, Donald Trump, with Rosenstein for his role as supervisor of the investigation of the Russian plot led by the prosecutor Robert Mueller.

Rosenstein took on that role after Attorney General Jeff Sessions decided to deviate from the investigation because of his contacts with Kremlin officials during Trump’s presidential campaign.

For months, Trump has made numerous and frequent public criticisms against Mueller and Rosenstein, fueling rumors in Washington about the possible dismissal of both officials.
