Zverev will be Carreño’s rival in Miami semifinals by beating Coric

The German Alexander Zverev, fourth seed, will be the rival of the Spanish Pablo Carreño in the second semifinal of the Masters 1,000 of Miami after winning the Croatian Borna Coric, by 6-4 and 6-4.

With this Friday’s game Zverev and Carreño will start their particular duel in what will be the first semifinal in Miami for both players.

In a match that began more than an hour late due to an electrical problem in one of the centers of Crandon Park Stadium, two of the best members of the new generation of tennis reflected their strength, but the German showed greater integrity and aggressiveness.

After saving two “break” balls in the second game, the confidence of the German rose and began to embarrass a Croat who made more mistakes.
With this panorama, the first break of the match corresponded to the German, who broke the service of Coric and confirmed in the following to get 4-2.

Although the Croatian had won his two previous matches, the last of them at the US Open in 2017, the 5 in the world was more aggressive and successful and closed the first set with a game in white.

But the great difference between both was in the serve, while the Hamburg scored 83% of their first services, 36 of the ATP was only around 60%, but with the second, lower incidence, the situation was reversed and they registered 63% and 75%, respectively.

Semifinalist two weeks ago in Indian Wells, where he won the one of the world, Roger Federer, Coric could hardly attack with guarantee the serve of his rival, while he had to reserve very well his service, which was threatened by the German.

Zverev, who had taken the Spanish David Ferrer in eighth and Australia’s Nick Qyrgios, missed two “break” balls in the third game of the second set, also took advantage of his opponent’s unforced errors, which allowed him two balls of break, but no luck.

But his insistence was rewarded and, with 4-4 on the scoreboard, broke the serve to his rival and confirmed the break in the next to win and stand in the semifinals, his best result so far this year, along with the “semis” “of the ATP 500 of Acapulco.

Zverev will face semifinals this Friday with Carreño, who defeated South African Kevin Anderson 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (6), while the other finalist will come out of the clash between Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and the American John Isner efe
