Belgian Neuville is leader after first super special; French Loeb is tenth

Guanajuato (Mexico) (EFE) .- The Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20), leader of the World Championship, finished in the first position of the Rally Mexico 2018 after the dispute of the first super special in the streets of the city of Guanajuato, 2 53 kilometers.

Neuville recorded a time of 2 minutes and 6.7 seconds after his journey in the “street stage” that traveled through the mining tunnels of this city.

The Estonian Ott Tanak (Toyota Yaris) and the French Sébastien Ogier (Ford Fiesta), current world champion, who finished 1.9 and 2.0 seconds behind the leader, placed in second and third place, respectively.

While the Finns Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi (Toyota Yaris) reached 2.5 and 2.9 seconds of Neuville, to complete the first five positions.

Spaniard Dani Sordo (Hyundai i20) was eighth, 4.5 seconds behind the leader and his compatriot.

The course was started by the nine times world champion, the French Sébastien Loeb (Citroën C3), who returned after just over three years of absence and finished tenth, 4.7 seconds behind Neuville.

This Friday the dirt roads begin. The first section will be Duarte-Derramadero (26.05 km) after El Chocolate (31.44 km) and finally Ortega (17.23 km), the three will run in the morning and in the afternoon.

In the intermediate a super street special in the city of Leon will be fulfilled and at night two super specials will run in the Autodromo de León.

The 2018 edition of the Mexico rally will cover 345.6 kilometers, with 22 timed sections and will travel through the roads of the cities Leon, Guanajuato, Silao, Irapuato, in the state of Guanajuato, central Mexico.
