Gonzalez, 31, from Mariel, a town in the western province of Artemisa, played in the US Major Leagues, where he only pitched 5.1 innings as a reliever in 2014.

The Cuban baseball player later joined the Minor Leagues of the Phillies, mainly due to injuries, according to the state newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

The information about the accident that caused Gonzalez’s death does not give details of the circumstances in which it occurred, but indicates that another person in serious condition was traveling in the car.
