Governor of Florida says that elections in Venezuela “were not reliable”

Florida Governor Rick Scott said today that the will of the Venezuelan people was again mocked by an “unreliable electoral process” and promised to continue to support freedom and human rights in that country.

Scott made that assertion about the gubernatorial elections held in Venezuela on the occasion of the entry into the Florida legislature of two bills that include his proposal to prohibit all state agencies from investing in companies that do business that the Government of Nicolás Maduro.

The governor, Republican and close to President Donald Trump, thanked the promoters of bills SB538 and HB359, interim president of the legislative chamber Jeanette Núñez and Senator René García.

“Florida is proud to advocate for true democracy and human rights that the people of Venezuela deserve and to oppose the tactics that Nicolas Maduro uses to stay in power,” said Scott.

According to the data of the National Electoral Council, which are not recognized by the opposition alliance, Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD), the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) won the elections in 17 of the country’s 23 states.

“Our people have given a brutal message to the imperialist government of Donald Trump, its regional allies and the local right,” Maduro said today during a meeting with international media at the presidential palace in Miraflores.

For Richard Corcoran, president of the Florida legislature, which is located in the state capital, Tallahassee, “the world is witnessing the evils of socialism in our own hemisphere.”

“The once successful and competitive nation (Venezuela) has been destroyed by an ideology that is morally, economically and politically bankrupt,” said Corcoran, who stressed that the state of Florida “must do everything it can” to end the regime of Maduro.

Jeanette Nuñez, for her part, said she was proud to promote legislation that aims to help the people of Venezuela “in their struggle for freedom.”

Senator Rene Garcia asserted that Florida “will continue to fight for the human rights and democracy of our friends in Venezuela.”
