American William McGirt and Canadian Mackenzie Hughes lead the Players tournament, considered the fifth “big” of the golf season, after completing the first exit to TPC Sawgrass of Ponte Vedra Beach.
McGirt and Hughes signed 67 shots, five under the field which places them as leaders with a lead impact on a group of four players tied for third place and among them is the Spanish Jon Rahm.
The Basque player completed his first tour with four birdies under his belt and without fail, which presented his candidacy to win the victory or at least to achieve a result that puts him in the top ten in the world ranking.
In the seventh place was another Spaniard, Rafa Cabrera Bello, who with 69 strokes is also in a good position for the title assault. In his case, his route was full of clear dark with five birdies, four of them in the first half of the route and two bogeys in the second.
The new champion of the past Masters of Augusta, Sergio Garcia, who did 73 strokes, one on par, after a very irregular start was not good. Thus, in the first nine holes added a double bogey in the hole 5, three bogeys and a single birdie.
He improved on the following with a bogey, two birdies and a hole in “one” in 17, an eagle that helped him save the situation.
