Miami-Dade, Florida – A man was arrested early Saturday morning, December 27, by county authorities after being caught with approximately 400 pounds of avocados allegedly stolen from a local orchard.
According to the police report, the suspect illegally entered the farm and began filling several bags with the fruit, intending to sell it later. Following a report from the owner, county officers located the suspect’s vehicle and made the arrest on a nearby road.
During questioning, the man reportedly stated that he planned to sell the avocados to get money to buy Christmas presents for his children. He still faces charges of grand theft and possible trespassing, and the case remains under investigation.
Local producers noted that this type of incident severely impacts the agricultural economy, as thefts occur frequently during the harvest season and increase production costs.
Authorities reminded the public that, even if personal circumstances are difficult, taking fruit from private farms is a crime, and urged the community to report any suspicious activity.
