Russia Announces Capture of Another Town in Zaporizhzhia as Part of Its Territorial Advances in Ukraine

Russian authorities claim to have shot down more than 90 drones launched by Ukraine in recent hours

Russian authorities announced on Monday the capture of another town in the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied as part of the invasion launched in February 2022, as part of the territorial advances made by Russian troops in the European country in recent months.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated in a communiqué published on its Telegram channel that “units of the Eastern military group liberated the town of Zatishie, in the Zaporizhzhia region, as a result of active offensive operations,” though Kyiv has not yet commented on these claims.

Russia has made advances in Ukraine in recent months, with the epicenter of these gains being in Donetsk. Moscow annexed the partially occupied provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia in September 2022, and has also managed to penetrate Kharkiv, Sumi, and Dnipropetrovsk, in addition to annexing the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

Furthermore, Russian authorities have claimed to have shot down 93 drones launched by Ukrainian forces in recent hours, including 45 over the Belgorod region and 20 over the Black Sea.

These figures are in addition to nine drones destroyed in Krasnodar, eight in the Sea of Azov, seven in Nizhny Novgorod, and four in Voronezh. No mention has been made of possible casualties or material damage. The Ukrainian military has not provided details about the targets of these attacks.
