US Vice President JD Vance argued on Friday that “any peace plan” intended for Ukraine must have the approval of both Russian and Ukrainian authorities and focus on minimizing the possibility of a future resurgence of conflict between the two countries.
Vance made this statement in a brief post on his Twitter account, where he established the cessation of killings and the preservation of Ukrainian sovereignty as the primary objective of any peace initiative in the region.
“Any criticism of the peace framework the Administration is working on either misinterprets that framework or distorts some critical reality on the ground,” warned the second-in-command to US President Donald Trump.
In this vein, Vance criticized the stance of those who think that “victory is within reach” and that ending this war is simply a matter of “more money, more weapons, or more sanctions.” “Peace will not be achieved by failed diplomats or politicians living in a fantasy world. Perhaps it will be achieved by intelligent people living in the real world,” he declared.
These statements by JD Vance come after the Vice President spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday afternoon, discussing President Trump’s proposal and emphasizing the importance of maintaining working contacts between Kyiv, Washington, and Brussels with a view to declaring a “workable peace” for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump indicated that his Ukrainian counterpart will have to accept the plan proposed by his administration to end the war in Ukraine, despite criticism regarding Kyiv’s concessions, because otherwise, “he will have to keep fighting.”
All this comes shortly after the US tycoon gave Zelensky less than a week to accept a document that, for the latter, represents “a very difficult decision” as he has to choose between “losing his dignity or a key partner”.
