The East Coast strengthens its position as a priority for new air routes.
Santo Domingo.- The tourist destination of La Romana has sparked strong interest among U.S. tour operators and travel agents for its sustainable offerings, following a recent promotional roadshow through Atlanta, Raleigh, and Charlotte.
More than 200 tourism professionals took part in the presentations and networking events, where the quality of La Romana’s tourism product and its commitment to sustainability as a pillar of development were highlighted. This effort is part of the destination’s positioning strategy in the U.S. market, aiming to strengthen its presence in Georgia and North Carolina, two states with high potential for tourism to the Dominican Republic.
Andrés Fernández, president of the La Romana–Bayahibe Hotel Association, emphasized the significance of the results:
“The U.S. market is evolving, and the interest in sustainability is not a passing trend but a real demand. Our commitment is to continue raising the destination’s standards, offering high-quality tourism experiences that are environmentally responsible and aligned with local communities.”
Regarding connectivity, the La Romana delegation highlighted that the U.S. East Coast is currently the top priority region for developing new air routes to the destination. At present, La Romana has a direct Miami–La Romana flight, and active efforts are underway to expand connectivity to other U.S. cities.
Ana García-Sotoca Pascual, executive director of the association, underscored the importance of joint efforts to consolidate the destination:
“The success of this roadshow reflects the unified vision between the public sector, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, and our private-sector partners. We will continue building bridges between La Romana and the United States, prioritizing the East Coast to enhance air connectivity and attract an increasingly conscious traveler.”
The initiative was supported by the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) and forms part of the Dominican Republic’s international promotion strategy. The focus on sustainability and expanding routes from the U.S. East Coast are the main pillars of La Romana’s strategy to continue growing in the North American market, positioning itself as the country’s leading sustainable tourism destination.
