The Cuban authorities have rejected the decision of the US Executive to return to a “hard policy” between both countries, a decision that they have described as an “abuse” against the Cuban people and that, they have predicted, will lead to “greater shortages” and an increase in emigration.”
“We reject the decisions announced by the US Secretary of State and the misleading pretexts with which he tries to justify the unjustifiable. “Just like the measures of January 20, there is no support for the new gratuitous abuse of the Cuban people,” said Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez in a post on his account on the social network X.
Rodriguez has condemned Washington’s change of position and argued that “toughening the criminal measures against the Cuban people will cause greater shortages, separation and increased emigration.”
The representative of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean country has demanded “overthrowing the blockade” insisting that it is a “new provocative act” by the United States, with the aim of instrumentalizing the issue of Cuba “to promote irresponsible scenarios of confrontation with purposes and results contrary to those proclaimed.”
These statements come after the American president, Donald Trump, decided this Friday to revoke the “last minute changes” in the position of his predecessor, Joe Biden, regarding Cuba and announced the return to a “tough policy” between both countries, starting by keeping the Caribbean State on its list of countries sponsors of terrorism.
Biden removed Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism in mid-January, just days after Trump, who reintroduced this measure during his first term, took office on January 20.
