Instagram has reached 1,000 million monthly users around the world

Instagram announced today that it has exceeded the 1,000 million active monthly users worldwide, during an event held in San Francisco.

“Since our launch in 2010, we have watched with amazement as the community has prospered and grown,” said Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.

In the act, Instagram, owned by Facebook, presented IGTV, a new application that allows users to watch videos of up to one hour long, focused on the professional content creators and celebrities who use this social network.

IGTV is an independent application and also an option within the Instagram platform.

It is specially designed to watch on the mobile phone videos or long-term programs in vertical format created by stars from social networks or the world of entertainment with millions of followers on Instagram.

IGTV works like when a television is turned on: when you open the application, videos start playing.

Instagram said today that very popular accounts like those of Kevin Hart, Kim Kardashian West, Nicky Jam, Chris Hemsworth or Lele Pons have already started using IGTV.

For normal users, the duration limit will be 10 minutes per video.
“Instagram has always been a place to connect with people who inspire, educate and entertain you every day … With your help, IGTV begins a new chapter of Instagram video, we hope it brings you closer to the people and things you love,” he said. Systrom.

With the launch of IGTV, Instagram enters into direct competition with traditional television and the YouTube video site, owned by Google, when it comes to offering long-lasting audiovisual content.
