The Universal studio confirmed that in 2019 will debut a spin-off of the action saga “Fast & Furious” that, in the absence of an agreement with the actors, will star in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, the Hollywood Reporter reported today.

The news comes a day after it became known that the ninth “Fast & Furious” film will not be released in 2019, as originally planned, but will delay its launch in 2020.

“‘Fast & Furious’ is one of Universal’s most beloved properties and every decision we make around this saga we do very carefully,” said study chair Donna Langley.

“The global brand of ‘Fast & Furious’ is solid and full of iconic characters, and we look forward to continuing to build on the film that started it all and also expanding (saga) into different narratives beginning with our first spin- “he added.

“The Rock” and Statham, who in the films of “Fast & Furious” give life to the characters of Hobbs and Deckard, respectively, will lead this project written by Chris Morgan, writer of several films in this saga.

“The Rock” entered the world of “Fast & Furious” with its fifth installment, “Fast Five” (2011), while Statham debuted in the film “Fast & Furious 6” (2013).

In addition to the ninth film and this derivative film, at least one tenth of the film is confirmed, due to be released in 2021.

The eighth feature film “Fast & Furious”, which premiered last April under the title “Fast & Furious 8”, featured Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham as protagonists and raised in worldwide 1.239 billion dollars, according to data from the specialized website Box Office Mojo.

Also, this movie broke the record for the highest grossing film ever to gross $ 542 million in its first weekend on the big screen around the world.

Altogether, the eight films so far from “Fast & Furious” have entered 5.135 million dollars.

The saga has also been news in 2017 by the harsh statements of Michelle Rodriguez, one of their faces more known and who has claimed that these tapes give more weight to women or, if not, will consider leaving these films.
